E3 2008 The Pre Show Talk

Overview
Over the last couple of days while contemplating the running up to E3 2008 I have been wondering what games will each development company be revealing this year, including games from Konami, Rockstar, Sony and Insomniac. So let’s have a look at some of the hopefuls at this year’s show.Click Read More to Proceed...

Metal Gear Solid 5 (PS3)
If this game was announced at E3 2008 it would easily be one of the biggest pullers of the show, with Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa taking center stage to discuss the first ever trailer for MGS5. But some of the origins of this game have already been discussed by Assistant Producer Ryan Payton of Kojima Productions, he has already stated that there will be further releases of the series, but they won't feature Solid Snake. Here is what Ryan Payton said about the game. "There are some misunderstandings that this is the final Metal Gear game, but it's really the final chapter of the Solid Snake story that's all.” Well, there's still a lot of room for filling in the gaps as far as Big Boss is concerned which could conclude that Metal Gear Solid 5 (Or whatever the next MGS game is called) may be a prequel.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Stories (PSP)
Rockstar Games have always denied the existence of this game, since the release of Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories Rockstar Games have been concentrated on GTA IV and the exclusive content for the Xbox 360. But many people still believe that the game will see the light of day, even if it doesn't get released on the PSP it may yet see a PS2 release. But because Rockstar Games hasn’t actually announced anything about this game no one knows anything about it, like the main character or what year it will be set in.

Resistance: Fall of Man (PSP)
Resistance: Fall of man was released on the PS3 in November 2006 for North America and Japan with the European release following in March 2007. It was released immediately alongside the PS3 console as a release title, but since than many rumors have been circling about a possible PSP version of the game which could be shown at E3 2008.

Syphon Filter 7 (PS3)
The existence of another Syphon Filter has always been thrown in the air; it is rumored to be confirmed for 2009. But we will see if anything is confirmed this year, as the last game ended on a weird note, but there are also rumors going around that Sony intends to kill off the series once and for all.

Driver 6 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
The 6th incarnation of the Driver series is the least likely game to appear at E3 2008 as the series is owned by Atari and they were recently bought out by Infogrames. Then in a press statement they stated that the company was going to focus its efforts on smaller games for the PSN, Xbox Live and Mobile Phones.
E3 2008 - Things I've Heard are Going to be There

Overview
Since the beginning of June 2008 I have been hearing all kinds of rumors about what kind of games will be shown at E3 2008 so let’s have a look at some of these rumors.

Metal Gear Solid 4 (Xbox 360)
Kojima Productions announced Metal Gear Solid 4 at E3 2005 with a teaser trailer, this trailer was built using the Snake Eater game engine but the game itself was promoted as a PS3 exclusive game. Grand Theft Auto IV and Devil May Cry 4 were announced to not be PS3 exclusive titles anymore as they would get an Xbox 360 release at the same time as the PS3 versions people started to wonder whether Metal Gear Solid 4 would remain a PS3 exclusive. When the game was released for the PS3, the rumors quickly died out, but then a couple of days ago these rumors resurfaced saying that it could be shown for the Xbox 360 at E3 2008 with a release later this year or early next year.

Grand Theft Auto IV (PC)
Rockstar Games have always stated that Grand Theft Auto IV will remain a console only title with new content only being made available via Xbox Live and the PLAYSTATION Network. A couple of months before the games worldwide release on the 29th April 2008 a few sites have stated released information saying that they have information from Rockstar Games that Grand Theft Auto IV will see a PC release in October 2008. They also said that GTA IV would appear at this year’s E3 show, although so far this is totally unfounded, so maybe something will be announced next week at E3 2008

Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow (PS2)
This game was first announced at E3 2004 when Sony showed off a trailer for Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow on the PSP with a second trailer being shown at GC 2004. Then suddenly the game just ceased to be. As no more news was ever released and everyone thought that Sony had scrapped the Syphon Filter series for good, but at their GamersDay 2007 they released a new trailer for Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow. It seems that Sony decided to pick up the game that was shown at E3 2004 and this game was released in late 2007 on the PSP, but then in February 2008 Sony confirmed that Logan's Shadow will be seeing a PS2 port sometime in late 2008. This will basically be the same game with the multiplayer features removed, the graphics enhanced and the controls redone, so maybe we'll see a trailer, some screenshots and more information at E3 2008.

E3 2008 - Past Let Downs and Surprises

Overview
Since I started following E3 back in 2000, which was when MGS2 was first shown I have seen a few let downs as well as surprises from the biggest games show on the planet, so lets have a look at some of these situations in more detail.

Metal Gear Solid X (Xbox) (2001)
After Konami and KCEJ (Kojima Productions) announced Metal Gear Solid 2 for the PS2, rumors started to appear about a possible port for the Xbox, but this time it would show Solid Snake's side of the story and Raiden would be given the back seat. After these five images were shown at E3 2001 the game suddenly disappeared and never resurfaced, but then at E3 2002 Konami showed off a trailer for MGS2 Substance which was basically MGS2 Sons of Liberty plus additional extras. This game was eventually released on the PS2, Xbox and PC, but the older more exciting game Metal Gear Solid X was never mentioned again and has since been lost in the shadows of time.

Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow (PSP) (2004)
After all of the hype and then disappointment about Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain for the PS2 in 2004, Sony decided to leave the PS2 and make its Syphon Filter series for the PSP instead. So they showed off Logan's Shadow for the PSP at E3 2004. This game featured the same game mechanics as The Omega Strain but packed onto the PSP. The greatest disappointment is the fact that some of the features used in those two trailers were never reused for Dark Mirror or the final version of Logan's Shadow. Then the surprise was seeing Logan's Shadow return in 2007, so this makes Logan’s shadow release date in 2007. This is officially the longest production time for a PSP game. Being as it was originally started in 2004 and finished in late 2007.

Blood (PSP) (2005)
Back in 1997 a small company called Monolith Games released a PC game called Blood, which was an FPS. Then in 1998 they released two expansion packs called Cryptic Passage and Plasma Pak. Then the game disappeared until E3 2005 when a surprise message was thrown around saying that a possible port of Blood, Cryptic Passage and Plasma Pak would be made available on the PSP by the end of 2006. But after the E3 show had finished in 2005 the game disappeared and was never actually developed for Sony's handheld, but the biggest disappointment came in March 2007 when Monolith classed the Blood series as abandon ware, which means that it will never be used again.

Grand Theft Auto IV (PC) (2007)
When E3 2007 started everyone was expecting Rockstar Games to announce that Grand Theft Auto IV would be released for the PC along with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, but this wasn't to be which a major disappointment this was. Instead Rockstar Games announced that GTA IV would be a console only game as they didn't want the game to be hacked like San Andreas was back in 2005. But luckily new rumors since then have gone to say that a PC version could be released later this year or early 2009.
